TO BE MISS JUNETEENTH KC??
JuneteenthKC is excited to invite the community to join us to celebrate over 15 young ladies for the first annual Becoming Miss JuneteenthKC Pageant program and Presentation at the GEM Theater.
This program consists of four themed weeks of curriculum beginning April 2nd, followed by pageant night May 21st.
JuneteenthKC provides pageant participants with the education, tools, and resources to help build resilience. Pageant participants gain confidence to make healthy lifestyle choices while developing positive lifelong peer relationships with girls across the Greater Kansas City area.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I participate in Becoming Miss JuneteenthKC?
With the consent of a parent or guardian, girls in the Kansas City metropolitan area can complete the application and pay a $30 application fee to participate in Becoming Miss JuneteenthKC. The application must include a current grade card, along with a short video on what Becoming Miss JuneteenthKC would mean to them, along with one thing they wish to learn about the Juneteenth holiday.
How much does it cost to participate?
Aside from the $30 application fee, which will be applied to any costs, the girls may require during their time Becoming Miss JuneteenthKC, the price will be minimal. JuneteenthKC will provide the pageant gowns for all the girls. We are also working to negotiate additional styling needs for the big night.
What happens after I apply?
The girls will begin four weeks of themed workshops starting the first weekend in April if selected. Workshops are scheduled Saturday or Sunday, depending on what works for most of our participants, and will last from 9am to 2pm. In this time, the girls will speak with their Pageant Mentors, hear from special guests and potentially go on scheduled outings. The girls will also work on their pageant project for the pageant and learn what will take place on the pageant night.
What happens if crowned Miss JuneteenthKC?
The newly crowned Miss JuneteenthKC will be required to make certain appearances on behalf of JuneteenthKC, for example, the Cultural Parade and the Heritage Festival. Miss JuneteenthKC will serve as a community liaison, speaking on behalf of JuneteenthKC in specific community events. Additionally, Miss JuneteenthKC will serve on the following year's pageant committee.

Laila is the graphic designer behind many of the images you will see for the Miss JuneteenthKC Pageant. And, she's just 12 years old!
JuneteenthKC is lucky and excited to have a girl from our very own community working on this new project. Laila attends our weekly meetings and provides the necessary insight to our committee as we work to create something special for little Black girls in Kansas City.
Additionally, Laila will work with our team to mentor the girls, sharing her story as an artist and graphic designer, and entrepreneur.
